If I Get Solar Panels, Do I Still Have To Pay An Electric Bill?

When you get a solar panel system installed on your home or business, you will be given an option from your utility company to be able to pay on a yearly basis. The yearly billing cycle begins the month your system is turned on and ends a year from that date. This is referred to as a true up bill.

True up bill

On your true up bill, you will be able to see the amount of electricity that’s been credited to your account and the amount that you have used (click sample true up bill image to enlarge).

Although you will only pay a yearly total, your utility company may still send you a monthly or quarterly statement detailing your credits and usage.

And remember – solar does not cover the gas portion of your bill so you will still continue to pay for your monthly gas usage as before.
